When Conversations Get Difficult
Not every conversation will feel smooth or easy. Some guests may become frustrated, reject a response, withdraw from the conversation, or express anger when they feel misunderstood. Even experienced advocates can find these interactions challenging, especially when they are genuinely trying to help.
The goal is not to make every conversation go perfectly. It is to recognize when an interaction becomes difficult, understand what may be contributing to it, and respond in a way that remains calm, respectful, and supportive.
As an advocate, you are not expected to control a guest's emotions or guarantee that every response will be helpful. Your responsibility is to remain present, communicate thoughtfully, respect the guest's choices, and follow the appropriate procedures when concerns arise.
Throughout this module, we will use one central framework:
STAY CALM → STAY CURIOUS → ADAPT YOUR RESPONSE
